Eutrobac’s journey started when co-founder Ellie Sangree was only 16. Growing up on a farm, Ellie was aware and worried about the issue of nutrient pollution in her community and around the world.

After doing research on ways to remediate nitrogen and phosphorus pollution, she learned that the most common way of solving the pollution problems involved dumping large amounts of synthetic chemical herbicides into natural waterways.

Ellie was sure there was a better way. Now a PhD candidate at UC Santa Cruz, Ellie has dedicated years of research to the topic of nutrient pollution. Eutrobac was founded in 2021 to commercialize Ellie's capability to assess water quality problems and implement her arsenal of solutions.
